Drainage

Burying perforated tube (tiles) in the soil speeds up a fields’ drainage process and brings the field to a uniform moisture level. This allows farmers to start working the field sooner after rain, reducing compaction. It should be noted, despite tile drainage, tillage can slow down field drainage because it destroys the macro pore pathways from earthworms and plant roots. Farmers with long term no-tilled fields claim they don’t need the extra tiles because of increased water infiltration rates.  Tiling is a long term investment but is required in many soil conditions.  Tiling projects should always be designed by Licensed Drainage Contractors.
